St James’ Talk: Pilgrimages

Gordon, a St James’ parishioner and Honorary Archivist of St James’, will explore the theology behind pilgrimages, a feature of Christian devotion for centuries, and the extent to which this theology was reflected in popular understanding. The talk will be illustrated and pay particular attention to the popular pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, important also in medieval times. Tickets are $10 including refreshments.

After this St James’ Institute event the Choir of St James Church presents a concert of music inspired by pilgrimage at 5pm at St James Church.


Marking the Feast of St James’ and inspired by the Camino de Santiago, trace the journey through France and Spain with The Choir of St James’. Indulge in music associated with pilgrimage and the search for spiritual nourishment. Concluding with the glories of the Spanish Renaissance, our epic journey arrives in monumental Santiago de Compostela.
