Biography:
Katrina Choi is a classical solo and chamber pianist who has performed across Europe, and in the USA. Her particular interest in French and Russian music has led her to win the 2022 Shoalhaven Piano Championship, 2021 Sydney Eisteddfod Duo Sonata with Amanda Chen, and a 2024 Poros International Piano Academy audience choice, amongst other prizes. Last year’s performance highlights include debut recitals in the USA and England, a recital for Music Shoalhaven, and a joint celebration of Ravel’s 150th birthday at the Sydney Conservatorium, with fellow pianists Dono Ng and Alexander Yau.
Since graduating, Kat has continued her piano tutelage overseas with Paul Roberts, as well has having lessons with Oleg Marshev and Dmitri Alexeev. She was a scholarship recipient while studying her Master and Bachelor of Music Performance with Phillip Shovk and Clemens Leske, at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She maintains her connection with the Conservatorium as an Open Academy piano tutor.
Kat has fundraised for multiple causes through concerts, her first marathon and half marathon races, and as a World Vision sponsor. When not immersed in music, she can be found enjoying nature, reading with good coffee and pastries, or delving into other artistic channels. She has a Taekwondo bronze medal from the 2016 AAITF National Championships, and her film photography was featured in the University of Sydney’s 2017 Student Anthology.
