We welcome Sophie Zhu to St James on the 17th of June for our lunchtime concert series, Sophie is an imaginative young performer from Sydney. Her flute journey began at the tender age of eight, before later attending the Conservatorium High School. She is currently a year 12 student at North Sydney Girls High School. She currently studies flute with Jonathan Henderson, previously studying with Jocelyn Fazzone and Lisa Breckenridge. Sophie has performed in master classes for Joshua Batty, Eliza Shepherd and James Kortum. She has been awarded numerous accolades at a young age, including an AmusA with distinction on piano at age 13, and an AmusA on flute at 15. Sophie is also an experienced orchestral musician, having played with both the Australian Youth Orchestra Young Symphonists Program and the Sydney Youth Orchestra. Further, she has served as the principal flute of the Conservatorium High School Wind Sinfonia. Sophie is known for her thoughtful, mature musicality. She has been praised for her rich, resonant tone, and versatility to different musical styles. Outside of music, Sophie enjoys reading, writing and dancing.
